Gilbert is the most populous incorporated town in the United States, with about 268,000 residents at the 2020 Census. It is formally a Town rather than a City, a quirk of its civic history. From 1911 through the late 1920s Gilbert called itself the “Hay Shipping Capital of the World,” and that agricultural identity is still visible in the Heritage District downtown. Today Gilbert is known as one of the Phoenix metro’s most family-oriented communities, with young families, good schools, parks and one of the higher household incomes in the East Valley.
For Hicks Insurance Group, Gilbert is the family-bundle market of the East Valley: two-parent households with several vehicles, teenagers approaching driving age, life insurance needs tied to a mortgage and college savings, and an umbrella policy to protect all of it. Hicks is an independent agency, in business since 1998 and licensed in Arizona, working with 14+ top-rated carriers. We serve Gilbert from our Tempe office, and many of our carriers offer meaningful multi-policy discounts that fit Gilbert households well.

Most Gilbert homes were built after 1990, in the boom-era subdivisions that filled in farmland as the Town grew from hay capital to suburb. That makes homeowners coverage in Gilbert more predictable than in older cities, but not automatic.
Replacement-cost math for newer subdivisions is usually straightforward, but lumber and labor costs have risen sharply since 2020. A dwelling limit set when you bought the house may no longer cover a full rebuild, so check that yours reflects current 2026 construction costs rather than your purchase price or market value.
Gilbert’s downtown Heritage District holds a small pocket of pre-1950 housing. These homes need the same careful replacement-cost work as older homes in Mesa or Chandler, because older materials and building-code upgrades cost more to rebuild.
Heritage District replacement cost
If your home is in or near the Heritage District, expect different replacement-cost math than in the post-1990 subdivisions. We recalculate the dwelling limit from a current rebuild estimate before quoting.
Three gaps come up again and again in Gilbert homeowners reviews.

Arizona’s state minimum is 25/50/15: $25,000 of bodily injury coverage per person, $50,000 per accident and $15,000 for property damage. We don’t recommend it for any Gilbert driver. Commuter traffic on Loop 202 (the SanTan Freeway) and US-60, plus the reality of multi-vehicle family households, means a single accident can quickly exceed those limits.
Our recommended floor is 100/300/100 with matching uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) coverage. For households planning to add a teen driver in the next one to three years, 250/500/250 is a safer baseline to set now, before the teen is on the policy.
Adding a teen driver often raises a household’s auto premium substantially, and carriers price young drivers very differently: some are aggressive, others far more reasonable. We re-shop the policy specifically when a teen joins, and ask about good-student and driver-training discounts where carriers offer them.

Gilbert’s commercial market is anchored by three large institutional ecosystems: aerospace and defense, healthcare and public education. Around them sit the contractors, restaurants, retailers and professional firms that serve a fast-growing town of young families.
Northrop Grumman is one of Gilbert’s major employers. Businesses that supply defense programs and handle controlled technology may face contract requirements tied to ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations), including cyber and liability terms that standard small-business policies don’t include. We review the contract’s insurance section before we quote.
Gilbert is home to Banner Health’s Banner Gateway Medical Center and Dignity Health’s Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, which support a network of medical vendors, contractors and professional-services firms. Any business handling protected health information (PHI) should treat cyber insurance as essential.
Gilbert Public Schools, with 2,918 employees, is the Town’s largest employer, followed by Banner Health and the Town of Gilbert itself. Businesses serving the district or the Town are usually asked for certificates of insurance showing general liability, commercial auto and workers’ compensation at set limits.
Coverage we place for Gilbert businesses includes general liability, contractors insurance, commercial auto, workers’ compensation and restaurant and bar coverage.

For most Gilbert households, the policies that matter most after home and auto are an umbrella and life insurance. Placing them together, often with the same carrier, is where bundling can make the biggest difference.
Many carriers offer a multi-policy discount when home and auto are placed together, and some extend it when umbrella or life coverage is added. A bundle isn’t always cheapest, though. We price the bundle against the best unbundled combination and show you both, so you can see the actual lowest total premium for the coverage you want.
Home equity, retirement accounts and college savings often push a Gilbert family’s assets past the roughly $300,000 of personal liability inside a typical homeowners policy within a few years of buying. A $1 million umbrella sits above home and auto liability and is usually one of the more affordable ways to protect those assets. The claims that drive it in Gilbert are familiar ones: a guest injured at a pool party, a dog bite at a neighborhood park, or a teen driver in a multi-vehicle crash on Loop 202 or US-60. Once household assets pass $1 million, a $2 million umbrella is common, and the added cost is modest compared to the first million.
Term life insurance is the simplest way to make sure the mortgage, childcare and college plans survive if a parent dies. We compare term and permanent options across carriers and help you size coverage around your actual obligations.

Gilbert shares the East Valley’s desert climate, and its growth pattern and employers add a few local considerations.
Pool ownership
Many Gilbert homes have pools. Homeowners liability generally covers pool accidents, but per-incident limits and attractive-nuisance exposure for neighborhood children matter, so review limits and any carrier safety requirements.
Desert weather
Monsoon flash flooding, haboobs, hail and extreme heat affect the whole East Valley; the Phoenix area’s record high is 122°F, set at Sky Harbor in 1990. Flood is excluded from standard homeowners policies, so consider flood insurance near washes and low-lying areas.
Defense contract requirements
Defense-related work may require cyber and liability terms that standard small-business policies don’t include. Share the contract’s insurance requirements with us before you sign.
Heritage District housing
The pre-1950 homes downtown need replacement-cost attention, a smaller pocket than downtown Mesa but worth flagging.
Gilbert families tend to carry several policies at once, which is exactly where an independent agency earns its keep.

What makes our independent insurance agency so wonderful is not our extensive experience or our network of top carriers. It is you. It is the relationship we get to build with you and the trust you place in us.
We want to ensure we deserve your loyalty and trust, which is why we build our agency on the three principles listed below.

We work diligently to find the very best coverage and risk management options for you and your specific needs.
We are only as good as our word. We're committed to advocating for and living up to the highest of moral and ethical standards.
We want to be your insurance partner for as long as you need coverage. We will stand by your side at all times, and are available when you need us.
If you are new to Hicks Insurance, you probably have some questions. Let's help you get some answers.
If you cause an accident, be prepared to pay your deductible. After you’ve done that, your insurance company should pay the remaining costs, including damages or medical expenses you caused to other parties involved.
Your business insurance needs are as unique as your business itself. While all businesses need certain types of coverage—general liability, business property, and workers’ compensation, for example—your other needs hinge on your type of business. If, for example, you use vehicles in your line of work, you need business auto insurance. Similarly, businesses that manufacture a product should consider product liability insurance. Talk to your agent to determine your exact needs.
